I have always been interested in wearable art and sculpture, drawing inspiration from items that can sometimes be overlooked, but are personal and nostalgic. I grew up in rural South-Texas where I took small town living for granted. I am now based in the DFW area and I wish I could have as much access to nature as I once did. Through my jewelry, my goal is to preserve special moments, no matter how simple they may seem.
I love jewelry and metalsmithing because it gives me a different way to fit art into daily life compared to other art forms. Taking inspiration from light, I use natural and precious gems to add color and meaning to my work. The water has always been my comfort, and I use the reflection of light on water to pick out color schemes for my work.
In my recent work, I have been pushing myself to think about how jewelry isn't just routine, but wearable art. I have been researching runway fashion to create alternative forms of jewelry while still incorporating my roots with my inspirations and vision. I enjoy exploring the contrast between the hardness of metal and the gentle nature of other materials. By using durable materials like metal, I am able to show the lasting importance of the piece while maintaining my airy and soft aesthetic.
As I finish my BFA this semester, I want to keep pushing my personal boundaries by learning more about metal, my craft, and myself.
